From December 31 through January 3, we escaped to Ellijay, Georgia for a cozy, close-to-home getaway that checked all the boxes: mountain air, river views, and a pup-friendly cabin where we could truly slow down. Where We Stayed: Coosawattee River Resort

For our Ellijay, Georgia getaway, we rented a cabin inside Coosawattee River Resort, and it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip. The resort is a gated community tucked into the mountains, with easy access to the river and just a short drive into downtown Ellijay.

Being right on the river made the stay especially memorable. Mornings were slow and quiet, evenings felt extra cozy, and the constant sound of the water created the kind of peaceful backdrop you don’t realize you need until you have it. It was a huge win for my husband and really set the tone for the entire trip.

Engelheim Vineyards

Cartecay Vineyards

Cartecay is often recommended and draws a crowd, but it just wasn’t our favorite stop. It’s worth trying if you’re curious, though it wasn’t a repeat visit for us.

For something a little different, White Path Creek Distillery was a fun stop. They focus on small-batch spirits and offer a laid-back tasting experience that’s easy to enjoy, even if you’re not typically a spirits person.

Reece’s Hard Cider Co

A natural fit for Ellijay’s apple-forward reputation, Reece’s Hard Cider Co. was a great addition to the trip. Crisp, refreshing, and approachable, it’s a nice alternative if you want to switch things up from wine.
