Toronto Weekend Getaway

Weekend in Toronto: Skyline Views, Baseball & Bites

We recently celebrated my husband’s birthday with a surprise weekend in Toronto—a Christmas gift I planned months in advance. Between the baseball game, skyline views, and incredible food, it was the perfect quick getaway. If you’re looking for a fun, culture-packed escape, Toronto checks every box.

Why We Chose Toronto for a Birthday Weekend

When I saw the Braves were playing the Blue Jays, I knew exactly where we were going. Toronto had long been on our list, and the chance to combine a baseball game with city adventures made it an easy yes. Not only does it offer great attractions, but it also has walkable neighborhoods, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere.

Where to Stay During a Weekend in Toronto: Stadium Views & Suite Goals

Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel

We stayed at the Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel, and honestly, it blew us away. Although we weren’t expecting anything special, we were upgraded to a field-level suite overlooking Rogers Centre. My husband was confused when the elevator went down instead of up—but that turned into pure joy when we opened the door to a two-story suite with front-row stadium views. It was like our own private luxury box.

In addition to the incredible view, the staff made us feel so welcome. We took full advantage of the Concierge Lounge for breakfast, and we loved dinner at Sportsnet Grill. Because it overlooks the field, you can enjoy a game without leaving your seat—or your wine.

Game Day at Rogers Centre

Rogers Centre

We arrived at Rogers Centre early to catch batting practice and even made our way to the dugout. Meanwhile, the energy inside the stadium was electric. There were tons of great food options (including some surprisingly good cocktails), and the vibe was everything you’d want from a live game.

However, when the Braves started falling behind, we decided to grab drinks from Sportsnet Grill and head back to our suite. That way, we could relax and still enjoy the game—just with a bit more comfort.

Soaring Views & Prix Fixe Lunch: CN Tower on Our Toronto Weekend Getaway

The next day, we headed straight to the CN Tower. The glass-front elevator ride is quick and thrilling, and once you reach the top, the views are spectacular. From up there, you can see Lake Ontario, the Toronto Islands, and the entire downtown skyline.

After taking in the views, we had lunch at 360 The Restaurant. It offers a prix fixe menu, which is a great way to try their seasonal dishes. We enjoyed Fogo Island cod and prime rib while slowly rotating high above the city. As we sipped our cocktails, the view kept changing—making the experience even more memorable.

Exploring Local Gems Near Rogers Centre on a Weekend in Toronto

Later that afternoon, we explored nearby attractions. We walked to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, just a few steps away, and spent nearly two hours there. What stood out most was the Dangerous Lagoon, a tunnel where sharks and rays glide above and around you.

Afterward, we grabbed a drink at Steam Whistle Brewery, which has a relaxed Biergärten vibe and great beer. Since it’s housed in a former railway roundhouse, we also popped into the Toronto Railway Museum next door for a quick look.

Places We’re Saving for Next Time

Even though we packed a lot into our weekend in Toronto, we’re already planning another trip. Next time, we’re hoping to visit Casa Loma, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and take the ferry to Toronto Islands.

Quick Day Trip: Niagara Falls

On Sunday, we squeezed in a day trip to Niagara Falls. It’s under two hours by car and absolutely worth the drive. From the roaring waterfalls to the scenic route through wine country, it was a perfect way to end our trip. (More on that soon in a dedicated post!)

Final Thoughts: Why a Weekend in Toronto is Worth It

Finally, our weekend in Toronto was exactly what we needed—a refreshing mix of sports, city views, and culinary discovery. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend, a birthday surprise, or just a fast getaway, this city is full of surprises and charm.
