Weekend in Greenville SC: A Quick Getaway from Atlanta

A weekend in Greenville, SC, makes for the perfect quick getaway from Atlanta —just a two-and-a-half-hour drive —and you’re transported to a charming downtown filled with great food, scenic views, and plenty to explore. We headed up for a wedding and realized the timing lined up perfectly with our anniversary, so we turned the celebration into a mini-vacation.

It was our first time visiting, and Greenville delivered such a memorable introduction. From strolling through Falls Park to discovering cozy cocktail spots, savoring delicious brunch, and soaking in the lively atmosphere, we loved every minute of slowing down and toasting to another year together.

Things to Do in Greenville, SC

Explore Falls Park on the Reedy

Greenville has so much to offer for a weekend in Greenville, SC, and exploring Falls Park on the Reedy is a must. One of the biggest surprises about Greenville is how nature and city life blend so seamlessly, and Falls Park is the perfect example. Right in the heart of downtown, you’ll find lush gardens, scenic pathways, and the beautiful Reedy River waterfall. We spent the afternoon wandering the trails, stopping for photos (because how could you not?), and just taking in the views. It’s one of those spots where you immediately get why people fall in love with this city.

Soak in the Views from the Grand Bohemian

The Grand Bohemian Lodge sits perched right along the river, and even if you’re not staying there, it’s definitely worth stepping inside. The lodge is beautiful —think modern mountain retreat meets boutique luxury —with cozy fireplaces, statement art, and windows that frame the park perfectly. We popped in for cocktails at Spirit & Bower, which turned out to be one of our favorite stops of the trip.

Stroll Downtown Greenville

Main Street is made for wandering. Lined with local shops, inviting cafés, dessert bars (more on that below), and plenty of outdoor seating, it’s easy to spend hours exploring. Since we were in town for a wedding weekend, we kept things fairly relaxed, but we still loved how walkable everything was, no car needed once we parked and checked in.

Bonus Ideas for Next Time

If we had a little more time to explore, these Greenville favorites were high on our list:

  • Bike the Swamp Rabbit Trail — A scenic, riverside path that runs for miles. Rent bikes downtown and make a fun afternoon of it.
  • Catch a game at Fluor Field — Greenville’s own mini-Fenway with great local energy.
  • Browse local art + murals — Downtown is filled with galleries and colorful walls perfect for quick photo stops.
  • City Scape Winery (20–25 min away) — Tastings with a charming farm-like setting and adorable animals.
  • Visit Falls Park at night — The bridge and waterfall glow under twinkle lights—romantic and totally worth a second visit.

Where We Ate & Drank in Greenville

One of the best parts of a weekend in Greenville, SC, is discovering the vibrant dining scene — from riverfront brunch spots and cozy cocktail lounges to tapas and late-night treats just steps from the park. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely brunch, an intimate dinner, or something sweet after exploring downtown, there’s no shortage of delicious stops.

Here are a few places we enjoyed during our weekend:

Passerelle Bistro

Tucked alongside Falls Park, this French-inspired bistro served up a lovely brunch with river views and a relaxed patio atmosphere. Think mimosas, brunch plates, and the perfect start to exploring the park. (I couldn’t resist the apple cider mimosa, highly recommend!)

Spirit & Bower — Grand Bohemian Lodge

Grand Bohemian Greenville, SC

A must-visit for cocktails with a view. Overlooking the river and wrapped in lodge-style charm, this bar nails both ambiance and creativity. My drink featured vanilla, chocolate, and pumpkin-pie cream, a festive sipper for a fall weekend.

Carmella’s Café & Dessert Bar

When you want something sweet (or a nightcap), this spot hits the mark. We stopped in for Irish coffee and a treat —cozy, casual, and just steps from all the action downtown.

The Cazbah

A fun dinner pick if you’re in the mood for tapas and a lively atmosphere. Great for sharing bites and trying a mix of flavors before heading back out to explore Main Street.

Other Recommended Spots

Even though we couldn’t fit everything into one weekend, these places came highly recommended and are already on our list for next time:

  • Jianna — Modern Italian cuisine + a beautiful patio overlooking Falls Park
  • Soby’s — Southern comfort classics and a Greenville staple
  • Urban Wren — A dream for wine lovers, with tastings and a strong culinary program
  • The Lazy Goat — Mediterranean-inspired plates with great river views
  • Vault & Vator — A speakeasy-style spot for elevated cocktails in a cozy setting

Where to Stay for a Weekend in Greenville, SC

One of the best parts about visiting Greenville is how walkable the downtown area is — once you park, you can explore restaurants, shops, and the riverfront all on foot. For that reason, staying in or near downtown is definitely the way to go.

We stayed at The Westin Poinsett, a historic hotel right off Main Street. It was a great home base for the weekend — comfortable rooms, friendly service, and just a short stroll to Falls Park and everywhere we wanted to explore.

If you’re looking for something a bit more boutique or scenic, here are a couple of standout options:

  • Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville — Perched above the river with lodge-like charm, statement art, and stunning views of Falls Park. Even if you don’t stay here, pop in for cocktails at Spirit & Bower (we did — loved it!).
  • AC Hotel Greenville — Modern style, rooftop bars, and a convenient location right along Camperdown Plaza.

No matter which direction you go, picking a hotel near the park and Main Street puts Greenville right at your doorstep.

Tip: Popular fall weekends can book up quickly, especially during leaf season and football games, so plan ahead if you can!
